South Korean officials are celebrating North Korea’s participation in next month’s Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang as the two countries work toward alleviating tensions, Reuters reported.
“North Korea’s participation in the Olympics will be a catalyst for building peace and easing tensions on the Korean peninsula,” South Korea’s head of state said Sunday in a statement.
North Korea plans to send 22 athletes to the games next month, as well as performers. Seven North Korean music and arts officials arrived in South Korea Sunday to examine performance sites, Reuters reported.
