President Trump has agreed to sit down with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, as tensions with the isolated Communist regime continue to escalate, a South Korean official announced Thursday.
A member of the South Korean delegation hand-delivered a letter to Trump from Kim late Thursday, national security advisor Chung Eui-Yong said during a brief press conference at the White House.
« (Kim) stressed his eagerness to meet President Trump as soon as possible, » Chung told reporters. « President Trump appreciated the briefing and said he would meet Kim Jong Un by May to achieve permanent denuclearization. »
Kim is « committed » to scaling back his country’s nuclear weapons program and will refrain from any further missile tests, Chung added.
