A Chinese tour group was attacked and robbed in Paris on Thursday evening by four assailants armed with tear gas, according to China’s embassy in France.
The 40 holidaymakers had just returned from a shopping trip and were milling in the car park of the Kyriad Hotel in the Val-de-Marne suburb of the city at about 8.20pm, according to newspaper Le Parisien.
The four suspects ran into the car park and began spraying tear gas at the tourists, Xinhua cited local media reports as saying. The assailants then made off with nine bags filled with shopping, including many luxury items, though the exact value had not yet been calculated, it said.

“I heard screams, and when I looked out the window, I saw two people assaulting a Chinese guide, and I saw others using tear gas against the tourists,” a hotel worker was quoted as saying in the report by Le Parisien.
“For an hour, it was absolute panic… Many of them [tourists] asked me to hide their bags.”
The report did not say if anyone was hurt in the attack, but said two of the tourists complained of feeling sick. The group returned to China on Friday.
The Chinese embassy said it had contacted French police and urged them to solve the case and bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible.
It also issued a warning to all Chinese planning to visit France, describing the security situation in the country as “grim”.

“The greater Paris region has reported a series of violent muggings and attacks against Chinese tourists and Chinese-French,” it said.
The Xinhua report said police in Paris had confirmed an investigation was under way.
The incident is reminiscent of the attack on Chinese tourists in the northern Paris suburb of Aubervilliers in August last year.
The 27 holidaymakers were set upon by a gang of six men, again armed with tear gas, as they boarded a bus to take them to the airport for their flight home.
In a separate incident, also in August 2016,49-year-old textile designer Zhang Chaolin died in hospital five days after being assaulted on a residential street in the Paris suburb of Aubervilliers.

The father of two intervened when three men tried to steal his friend’s bag and was beaten to the ground. He hit his head on the pavement and fell into a coma from which he never recovered.

SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korea imposed unilateral sanctions on 18 North Koreans on Monday, barring any financial transactions between those sanctioned and any South Koreans, as part of international efforts to dry up Pyongyang’s illegal cash flows.
All 18 individuals on which the South Korean sanctions were imposed were directly affiliated to North Korean banks, according to an official government announcement by the finance minister uploaded on the Interior Ministry’s website.
“They are all people at North Korean financial institutions that have already been sanctioned by the United Nations,” a government official directly involved in the sanction development process told Reuters. The official asked for anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to media.
“They’re high-ranking employees who have been linked to North Korea’s nuclear and missile development program as well as the North’s foreign exchange procurement efforts.”
The announcement came a day ahead of U. S. President Donald Trump’s visit to South Korea as part of his Asia tour, where he is expected to discuss North Korea’s nuclear and missile program at length with government officials here.
When asked on the timing of the announcement, government officials denied it was tied to Trump’s visit to Seoul.
Despite the announcement, the sanctions are expected to have little to no impact on North Korea’s illegal activities to fund its weapons program as all trade and financial exchanges have been barred since May 2010 following the torpedoing of a South Korean warship by North Korea.
Those named were: Kang Min, Ko Chol Man, Ku Ja Hyong, Kim Kyong Il, Kim Tong Chol, Kim Sang Ho, Kim Jong Man, Kim Hyok Chol, Ri Un Song, Ri Chun Song, Ri Chun Hwan, Mun Kyong Hwan, Park Mun Il, Pak Bong Nam, Pang Su Nam, Pae Won Uk, Chu Hyok and Choe Sok Min.
According to the announcement 14 of those named were based in China, two were based in Libya while the remaining two were based in Russia.
The institutions the 18 were affiliated with were Korea Daesong Bank, Foreign Trade Bank of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Korea United Development Bank, Bank of East Land and ILSIM International Bank.
As of the announcement on Monday, South Korea had North Korea sanctions imposed on 97 individuals.

The man was struck in the left thigh and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized.

Kevin Harvick won his second race of the season on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway, but there are other implications from the race as well. Here are the three biggest takeaways from Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 race:
Harvick’s second win of the season couldn’t have come at a better time, as the former champion is automatically through to the championship race by virtue of his win. That isn’t to say he hasn’t been a contender all season, because he has. This race included, Harvick has finished in the Top 10 in four of the last five races (the lone exception being Talladega). Considering his incredible history at Homestead – he hasn’t finished outside the Top 10 there since 2007, and he’s been in the Top 3 three years running – he may just be able to steal away his second title.
Truex couldn’t add another 1.5-mile win to his already-impressive resume this season, but in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter. His massive points lead coming into the playoffs hasn’t deteriorated yet, and Sunday it was enough to get him through to Homestead without a win. Truex has been the fastest car all season long, but Homestead hasn’t exactly been his best track historically. At least now he’ll get the chance to redeem himself, and on the grandest of stages.
We know three of the names who will compete for a championship in two weeks, but there’s still one more space up for grabs. It’ll come down to Phoenix next weekend, and essentially it will be winner take all. If Brad Keselowski, Jimmie Johnson, Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, or Chase Elliott want to get in, they’ll almost certainly need a win. There’s a chance that one of the drivers already through wins, in which case the points will determine the fourth driver, but a win would ease any uncertainty. I like Hamlin and Keselowski’s chances, but it’s impossible to count out Johnson just yet. If I had to bet today, I think Johnson steals the win and gets in.

The Saudi-owned satellite news channel Al-Arabiya said the crash killed Prince Mansour bin Murquin, the deputy governor of Asir province.
The seven other alleged fatalities remain unidentified as of posting.
Prince Mansour is the son of Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz, a former director-general of the Saudi Intelligence Agency and a one-time crown prince of the kingdom. Prince Muqrin was removed as crown prince in April 2015 by King Salman. The current crown prince of Saudi Arabia is King Salman’s 32-year-old son, Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Authorities have yet to determine and disclose the cause of helicopter crash, but said a search of the wreckage was underway. /kga
