Ann Curry is opening up about leaving the ‘Today » show five
years.
In an interview with People, the former NBC
co-host said having to leave « hurt like hell. »
« It hurt so much, but I learned a lot about myself, » Curry said.
« I can say I’ve done nothing wrong. I’ve been honest and true.
I’ve tried to stay pure. I’ve tried to not respond in a knee-jerk
manner, and I’ve stayed very close to who I am. So it hurt, but
I’m also proud of myself. »
The 61-year-old had a tearful exit from the morning news show in
2012. After leaving, reports said it was because of her
co-host Matt Lauer.
Lauer, 60, was fired from NBC in November for « inappropriate
sexual behavior, » according to a
statement from the network.
In an interview with « CBS This Morning » Wednesday, Curry said she was « not
surprised » by the allegations against Lauer.
Since leaving « Today, » Curry told People she tried not to dwell
on the experience.
« I’m not going to say it wasn’t hard, » she said. « But I had to
let go. And I learned that when you not only let go but open your
arms wide and learn the lessons that an experience — no matter
how bad — can teach you, that’s when you rise. »
