The video game developer Epic Games officially decides to put Fortnite Battle Royale’s Drum Gun in the Vault by rotating it out of play for the time being.
Now that Fortnite‘s Content Update 5.4 is out in the wild, fans of the popular multiplayer sandbox survival shooter have been delving into all of the fresh materials Epic Games has brought to the table, such as tweaks to The Getaway LTM, the new Suppressed Assault Rifle, and more. While the patch has brought more to the title, it has also taken away a contentious weapon from the playing field, as Epic decided to use the latest update to put the Drum Gun in the Vault for the time being.
According to the patch notes of Fortnite‘s Content Update 5.4, Epic simply states that the Drum Gun has been “Vaulted”, but the studio has yet to give any reason as to why the firearm has been rotated out of play. What’s more is that the developer didn’t give a heads up before the patch went live to let players know that it would be removed.
For those who have been out of the loop when it comes to Fortnite‘s meta, it has been argued by numerous players that the Drum Gun is useful in myriad situations, such as its ability to let players quickly spray enemies down with a fast rate of fire at close or long ranges. What’s more is that it has the ability to lay waste to opponents’ buildings much faster than the Minigun and Light Machine Gun, making the latter two somewhat useless by comparison.
Taking all of this into consideration, while the Drum Gun was active in Fortnite, it seemed as if Epic could never find the proper balance for the weapon, which is likely why it has been Vaulted for the time being. So, until the developer finds a way to make it fit snugly within the free-to-play title’s catalog of weapons without it standing out as being too overpowered, fans will simply have to make do with the game’s ever-expanding armory.
Fortnite is available now in early access for iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with an Android beta currently underway.
