Chicago Coffee Entrepreneur Pans Trump’s Proposed Tax On Mexican Imports

(CBS) — The White House floated a plan to tax Mexican imports by up to 20 percent, to help pay for the border wall that President Trump has advocated.
The potential tax is not sitting well with some here in Chicago, who depend on Mexican imports, CBS 2’s Charlie De Mar reports.
The 20 percent tax on imports is just an idea at this point, but even the possibility of it becoming a reality has some local business worried about their future.
“With a 20 percent hike, that puts that in jeopardy,” says Jesse Iniguez of Back of the Yards Coffee Co. “Our company and a lot of small business will be affected adversely.”
Iniguez is grounding company in the heart of the South Side neighborhood. His company buys its beans from Mexico. A dollar from each bag of coffee he sells goes right into helping a social service here in Chicago.
“We are just providing a tool through coffee, so two communities can help each other,” he says.
The brewing business might be in jeopardy under the Trump Mexico tax idea.
“We absolutely need Mexico. It’s an extremely important partner both as an ally and as a country with which we do a lot of business,” says Phil Levy, Senior Fellow on Global Economy at the Chicago Consulate Global Affairs.
In 2015, some of the top imports from Mexico were vehicles ($74 billion); electric machinery ($63 billion); and mineral fuels ($14 billion).
Mexico is America’s third-largest supplier of goods and second-largest supplier of agricultural goods, things like fresh vegetables/fruit ($9.1 billion); wine and beer ($2.7 billion); and snacks ($1.7 billion).
Trump walked back the 20 percent import tax idea, saying it is something to consider.

Wird Diktator Assad jetzt etwa rehabilitiert? Der Mann, der so viele Menschenleben auf dem Gewissen hat, der seit Jahren Krieg gegen seine eigenen Bürger führt und Millionen zur Flucht trieb?
Der britische Außenminister Boris Johnson schließt nicht mehr aus, dass der syrische Diktator Baschar al-Assad sein Land auch nach einem Ende des Bürgerkriegs regiert. Das sagte Johnson am Donnerstag vor einem Parlamentsausschuss in London.
„Ich muss realistisch sein, angesichts der Weise, wie sich die politische Landschaft geändert hat”, sagte Johnson.
Johnson sprach sich für „ordnungsgemäß von den Vereinten Nationen überwachte” Wahlen in dem Bürgerkriegsland aus, an denen auch Assad teilnehmen solle. Bislang hatte Großbritannien, wie andere westliche Länder, eine politische Zukunft für den syrischen Diktator ausgeschlossen.
Auch eine Zusammenarbeit mit Russland, um die Terrormiliz ISIS zu bekämpfen, hält Johnson für möglich.
► Der britische Außenminister näherte sich damit kurz vor einem Besuch der britischen Premierministerin Theresa May in Washington der Linie von US-Präsident Donald Trump an. Trump will mit Russland zusammenarbeiten, um gegen ISIS-Terroristen vorzugehen.
Der Krieg in Syrien hat seit 2011 mehr als 500 000 Tote gefordert, die überwältigende Mehrheit davon hat das Regime von Baschar al-Assad zu verantworten.

Gerichtsprozess in Berlin: Verkehrspsychologin belastet Ku'damm-Raser

Je länger die Gutachterin spricht, desto sturer blickt Hamdi H. vor sich auf die Tischplatte. Es ist auch nicht gerade schmeichelhaft, was der Angeklagte da über sich hören muss. Er wirke labil und leide an massiver Selbstüberschätzung, sagt die Züricher Verkehrspsychologin Jaqueline Bächli-Biétry. Außerdem suche der 27-Jährige stets bei anderen die Schuld. Er sei definitiv nicht geeignet, am Straßenverkehr teilzunehmen.
Hamdi H. wird vorgeworfen, sich im Februar 2016 mit dem ebenfalls angeklagten Marvin N. ein illegales Autorennen über die Tauentzienstraße geliefert und dabei einen 69-jährigen Unbeteiligten zu Tode gefahren zu haben. Bei ihren Gesprächen habe der Angeklagte extrem freundlich und zuvorkommend gewirkt, sagt Bächli-Biétry. Mit einem IQ von 94 bewege er sich „im unteren Normbereich“.
Die Psychologin glaubt, H.s Rennleidenschaft sei auf seine geringen Lebensperspektiven zurückzuführen: Nach schwieriger Kindheit und abgebrochener Lehre habe er ein Mittel gebraucht, sein niedriges Selbstwertgefühl künstlich zu überhöhen. Das habe er in seinem gefährlichen Fahrstil gefunden – weil es dafür von anderen Rasern Lob gab. H.s Behauptung, er könne sich an das Rennen über die Tauentzienstraße nicht erinnern, hält die Psychologin für unwahrscheinlich. Und: „Er realisiert bis heute nicht, dass er einen schweren Fehler begangen hat.“ Einen Tötungsvorsatz habe der Angeklagte aber sicher nicht gehabt.
Zudem irritiert die Gutachterin, dass Hamdi H. für seine früheren Vergehen – er hatte bereits vier Unfälle verschuldet und 19 Ordnungswidrigkeiten begangen – so milde bestraft worden sei. In der Schweiz hätte H. dafür lange Fahrverbote erhalten. „Aus der Lernpsychologie wissen wir, dass zu geringe Urteile verheerende Effekte haben. Der Täter macht dann immer weiter.“ Bei H. hätte man lange vor der Tat therapeutisch eingreifen müssen. Ebenso wundert sie sich, dass die genaue Geschwindigkeit, mit der beide Angeklagte über Rot fuhren, nicht dokumentiert wurde. „In Zürich haben wir Tempomesser an den Ampeln. Warum hat Berlin das nicht?“

On football: Patriots have learned to unload Super Bowl tickets quickly

The confetti hadn’t even stopped swirling around Gillette Stadium on Sunday night when Rob Ninkovich moved on.
The celebration following the New England Patriots’ 36-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC championship game was continuing around Ninkovich, but his mind was already focusing elsewhere.
On to Atlanta.
And the Super Bowl in Houston on Feb. 5.
“I was ready to go right after the game was over,” said Ninkovich after the Patriots finished practice Thursday. “I mean, an AFC championship … Great. I’ve been there a couple of times. The next game is more important to me. You’ve got to get the next game.”
This will be Ninkovich’s third trip to the Super Bowl. He knows what to expect. And that meant taking care of a lot of personal business before the Patriots returned to practice Wednesday. Like tickets.
Each player is allotted 15 tickets to the Super Bowl. Doling them out can be dicey for a newcomer. Ninkovich has learned that it’s better to take care of the matter quickly.
“You get it over with as soon as possible so you don’t have to deal with the headache of a fifth cousin calling and saying, ‘Hey, remember me from five years ago?’ ” he said.
Asked if he’s had that happen, Ninkovich said no. “But I’ve had some friends call,” he said. “I try to stick to just close family members. My sister, nephew, mom and dad, wife and kids. That’s it.
“Mother-in-law,” he quickly added. “People I need to keep happy. I handle it and when it’s done, it’s done.”
It appears that message got to everyone on the Patriots.
Player after player said they took care of ticket requests as soon as they could.
“Oh that’s already over,” said running back James White. “Already handled that. It’s all over now.”
It’s important to get things like that done so the focus can return to preparing for a very dangerous Falcons team.
“Well, the last couple of days it was, ‘Hey, make sure you take care of all your ticket business, hotel business, travel business, because you don’t want that to be a distraction and it can be if you don’t handle it.’ ” said Patriots special teams captain Matthew Slater.
With two weeks to prepare, both teams will spend this week dissecting each other, probing for weaknesses and shoring up any of their own.
It’s cramming for the biggest exam of your life.
“You really focus in and study hard,” said White. “I mean, you can’t take the studying for granted, even though you have two weeks. You study hard and get to know them the best you can so you can go out flying around.”
Asked if there is such a thing as too much time to study, White replied, “You don’t want to be a robot. But the more film you watch the more you’re going to be aware of a situation that comes up in the game or a defensive look that you may recognize from the film. The more the better.
“So it’s, ‘Everybody, get in the film room, on your iPads. Study offense. Study defense. Study special teams. Whatever. Just try to be on the same page as the rest of the team so we can go to Houston and hit the ground running.”
Once in Houston, the week becomes a blur of media obligations, beginning Monday with Media Night. You’d better have a good grasp of what’s expected on the field when you arrive.
“You try to get on top of everything as quick as possible, using the time that we have here to your advantage,” said Ninkovich. “And being as prepared as possible so when we get down there, we can really focus in on what we have to do.”
Ninkovich wasn’t the only one who turned the page quickly on New England’s celebration Sunday night.
White also flipped the switch to Atlanta soon after the cheering died down.
“Happened immediately,” he said. “That same night you flip the switch.
“It’s not the end goal. The AFC championship is great and everything but we’ve got one more game to play. We want to go out and finish the deal.”

25 lat więzienia za fałszowane faktury. Sejm przyjął nowelę kodeksu karnego o VAT

Za przyjęciem projektu głosowało 238 posłów, przeciw było 191 posłów, 11 wstrzymało się od głosu. Nowela, przygotowana w resorcie sprawiedliwości , zakłada m.in., że kara 25 lat będzie mogła być orzeczona za fałszowanie faktur VAT , których wartość przekracza 10 mln zł. Z kolei karą więzienia od 3 do 15 lat byłoby zagrożone fałszowanie faktur o wartości przekraczającej 5 mln zł.
Nowe prawo wprowadza do Kodeksu karnego nowe kategorie przestępstw: wystawianie fikcyjnych faktur VAT oraz ich podrabianie i przerabianie w celu użycia jako autentycznych. Jeżeli fałszywa faktura służąca do wyłudzenia zwrotu VAT dotyczy towarów lub usług o wartości przekraczającej 5 milionów złotych, przestępstwo będzie zagrożone karą od 3 do 15 lat pozbawienia wolności.
Gdy wartość towarów lub usług wskazanych w fałszywych fakturach przewyższać będzie 10 milionów złotych, sprawcom grozić będzie, tak jak w przypadku najpoważniejszych zbrodni, kara pozbawienia wolności nawet 25 lat więzienia.
Nowelizacja wprowadza możliwość łagodniejszego potraktowania sprawcy, poprzez zastosowanie nadzwyczajnego złagodzenia kary, w wypadku ujawnienia przez niego wszystkich okoliczności przestępstwa oraz wskazania osób współdziałających, a w razie zwrócenia korzyści majątkowej osiągniętej z przestępstwa – nawet odstąpienia od wymierzenia kary. Ma to m.in. na celu rozbicie mafijnych powiązań w grupach przestępczych – wskazuje uzasadnienie.
Ustawa przewiduje zmiany nie tylko w Kodeksie karnym, lecz także w ustawach o policji, CBA , Straży Granicznej, Żandarmerii Wojskowej i kontroli skarbowej. Instytucje te mają zyskać możliwość « prowadzenia czynności operacyjno-rozpoznawczych oraz kontroli i utrwalania rozmów telefonicznych w przypadku najpoważniejszych typów czynów zabronionych ».
W czwartek po południu w sejmowej debacie nad nowelą poparcie dla niej zadeklarował klub PiS. Opozycja zapowiedziała głosowanie przeciw, przekonując m.in., że tak drastyczna kara jest nieadekwatna. Jej przedstawiciele dowodzili też, że jeśli te przepisy będą obowiązywać, przedsiębiorcy przeniosą siedziby swoich firm zagranicę.
Na krytykę opozycji odpowiedział wiceminister sprawiedliwości Marcin Warchoł. Jak podkreślał, projekt był konsultowany z przedstawicielami przedsiębiorców. Odnosząc się do zarzutów o nieadekwatności kary, wskazał, że za fałszowanie pieniędzy także grozi do 25 lat więzienia. Podczas wcześniejszych prac sejmowych nad projektem wiceminister sprawiedliwości Michał Wójcik wskazywał, że w 2013 r. organy kontroli skarbowej wykryły fikcyjne faktury na kwotę 19,7 mld zł, w 2014 r. na kwotę 33,7 mld zł, a w 2015 r. już na kwotę 81,9 mld zł.

Президент Мексики отменил встречу с Трампом

Президент Мексики Энрике Пенья Ньето отменил запланированную на 31 января встречу с президентом США Дональдом Трампом. Об этом Ньето написал в Twitter.
« Сегодня утром мы сообщили Белому дому, что меня не будет на рабочей встрече с президентом США, назначенной на вторник », – отметил он.
Трамп несколькими часами ранее предложил президенту Мексики отменить визит, если он не согласен взять на себя расходы за строительство стены на мексиканско-американской границе.
Строительство стены на границе с Мексикой было одним из предвыборных обещаний Трампа. При этом он заявлял, что расходы на строительство должна взять на себя Мексика.
Президент Мексики, в свою очередь, категорически отверг такую возможность .

Судья Соломенского районного суда Киева задержан при получении взятки в размере 22 тыс. долларов за снятие ареста с залогового имущества. Об этом сообщил министр внутренних дел Украины Арсен Аваков на странице в Facebook.
« Только что сотрудники Департамента защиты экономики Национальной полиции совместно с НАБУ задержали судью Соломенского суда города Киева и директора адвокатского бюро (посредник) при получении взятки 22000 долларов США за содействие в снятии ареста на имущество которое находилось в залоге », – написал он.
Как сообщалось, 6 сентября 2016 г. Верховная Рада Украины дала согласие на задержание и привлечение к ответственности судьи Днепровского районного суда Киева Николая Чауса, которого подозревают в коррупционных действиях. 11 ноября он был объявлен в розыск по линии Интерпола.

Луценко: Экс-"азовец" Церцвадзе вышел на свободу

В четверг, 26 января, на свободу из Лукьяновского следственного изолятора вышел экс-боец полка « Азов » Гия Церцвадзе.
Об этом на своей странице в Facebook проинформировал генеральный прокурор Украины Юрий Луценко.
« Как и обещал – Гия Церцвадзе на свободе. Украина своих не сдает. В том числе – если это свои грузины », – подчеркнул глава ГПУ.
Подтвердила данную информацию на своей странице Facebook и пресс-секретарь генпрокурора Лариса Сарган, отметив:
« Как и обещал генеральный прокурор Украины Юрий Луценко, только что боец АТО из Грузинского легиона Гия Церцвадзе вышел на свободу из Лукьяновского СИЗО ».
Стоит отметить, что, по словам адвоката Церцвадзе Ксении Проконовой, с ее подзащитного снят временный арест по решению прокуратуры, однако его судьба еще окончательно не решена, поскольку еще продолжается экстрадиционная проверка, информирует Интерфакс-Украина.
Напомним, сегодня Апелляционный суд Киева принял решение перенести рассмотрение апелляции касательно ареста Церцвадзе на 3 февраля.
Уже 23 января защита Церцвадзе обжаловала его арест.
В свою очередь заместитель генпрокурора Украины Евгений Енин предположил, что Украина по международному праву может отказаться от экстрадиции Церцвадзе в случае угрозы его жизни. Также он отметил, что как только будут собраны все документы и все компетентные органы передадут свои выводы, Генпрокуратура примет окончательное решение с учетом всех аспектов, в том числе национальных интересов Украины.
Ранее Луценко провел переговоры с Грузинским корпусом в составе ВСУ, генпрокурором Грузии и представителем грузинской оппозиции. По итогам переговоров глава ГПУ заявил, что их обращения и анализ положений международных конвенций дает основания не только для освобождения Церцвадзе из-под ареста на время экстрадиционной проверки, но и для дальнейшего решения об отказе в выдаче его РФ.

Donald Trump hits back at Mexico’s Nieto: Cancel our meeting if you won’t pay for the wall

President Trump said Thursday that it may be for the best if Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto cancels his planned visit here next week, unless he’s willing to pony up money for the border wall.
Mr. Trump ’s Twitter post came a day after Mexican officials, angered over his new executive orders on immigration, said they were considering nixing next week’s trip.
“The U. S. has a 60 billion dollar trade deficit with Mexico. It has been a one-sided deal from the beginning of NAFTA with massive numbers of jobs and companies lost. If Mexico is unwilling to pay fo the badly needed wall, then it would be better to cancel the upcoming meeting,” Mr. Trump said in his new tweet.

On Wednesday, Mr. Trump issued executive orders laying out early plans to build his proposed wall on the U. S.- Mexico border.
Mr. Pena Nieto , in a video posted to Twitter , again repeated his vow never to foot the bill, and said he’s ordered Mexico ’s extensive network of consulates in the U. S. to do what they can to shield Mexican migrants.
An official also told the Associated Press that Mr. Pena Nieto is considering canceling his visit in retaliation for Mr. Trump ’s forceful new moves.
The Mexican leader is under intense political pressure to figure out how to handle Mr. Trump. An invite last year, during the presidential campaign, did not go so well, with the two men publicly disagreeing over whether they’d even broached the topic of paying for the wall.
Mr. Pena Nieto ’s approval rating reportedly fell after that encounter, and he’s since been struggling to figure out a tactic to take with his country’s most important neighbor.
Mr. Trump ’s executive orders Wednesday also instructed U. S. agents to begin making use of a part of the law that says illegal immigrants caught entering from the Mexican border can be shipped back to Mexico while they await their deportation hearings in the U. S.
That move could force Mexico to step up its own enforcement. Currently, for some migrants such as Haitians, Mexico issues 20-day transit passes — just enough time for the migrants to go from southern Mexico to the U. S. border.
Analysts expect that if those Haitians, once caught, were then shipped back to wait in Mexico for processing, the Mexican government may not be as willing to let them cross in the first place.
The Mexican government didn’t respond to a request for comment Wednesday on that new order by Mr. Trump.
