It is an open secret by now that Chinese smartphone giant Huawei is set to unveil the successor to the Huawei P10 on March 27 in Paris. The Huawei P20, and not P11 as it was earlier expected to be named, is expected to be launched in three variants — P20, P20 Lite and P20 Pro. New reports claim that the smartphone will have a triple camera system and run on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.
Leaked images of the case, obtained by SlashLeaks point towards a vertically arranged triple camera setup at the back alongside a dual-LED flash. Previous reports claim that the P20 will come with a 40MP camera co-developed by Leica with 5X hybrid zoom. At the front, the smartphone is set to come with a 24MP dual-camera with a wide-angle sensor. The smartphone is also expected to come with Huawei’s own facial recognition technology which is set to be 10 times more accurate than Apple’s Face ID.
The facial recognition technology, which captures 300,000 data points — 10 times more than Face ID — is said to be housed in an iPhone X-like notch at the front of the Huawei P20. The technology can also be used to create animated emojis which Huawei claims are more advanced than Apple’s Animojis. Apart from mimicking facial expressions, Huawei’s animated emjois can also track the movement of your tongue.

Another report by XDA claims that the entire Huawei P20 lineup will run on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Huawei is supposedly looking to bring changes to EMUI in order to make it appeal to western audiences. Reports suggest that Huawei management is not pleased with certain changes brought to recent builds of EMUI. In fact, Huawei’s consumer group CEO RIchard Yu even labeled some of them as stupid.
The Huawei P20 is expected to be powered by the Kirin 970 processor with the Huawei P20 Pro coming with a newer and more powerful Kirin 975 chipset. All three variants of the smartphone will come with 6GB of RAM and minimum 64GB of internal storage.
