Police confiscate computers belonging to a software firm linked to a giant malware attack last month.
Police in Ukraine have seized the servers of an accountancy software firm, which is believed to have unwittingly helped spread malware that attacked many global firms last month.
Intellect Service has denied that its software helped spread the malware.
But security experts have said that some of the initial infections were indeed spread via a malicious update to MeDoc.
It is Ukraine’s most popular accounting software.
The cyber-attack — a variant of an earlier virus called Petya — hit businesses around the world including the shipping firm Maersk and the marketing giant WPP.
It was initially thought to be a ransomware attack designed to make money for the hackers behind it.
But some security firms now think that it was deliberately designed to destroy data and targeted Ukraine.
The head of the country’s national Cyberpolice unit had previously alleged that Intellect Service had ignored repeated warnings that it needed to improve its security in advance of the attack.
«They were told many times by various anti-virus firms, » Col Serhiy Demydiuk told the Associated Press news agency .
«For this neglect, the people in this case will face criminal responsibility.»
In a separate interview with Reuters, the father and daughter team who run Intellect Service said they were not responsible.
«What has been established in these days, when no one slept and only worked? We studied and analysed our product for signs of hacking — it is not infected with a virus and everything is fine, it is safe, » said Olesya Linnik, managing partner at Intellect Service.
«The update package, which was sent out long before the virus was spread, we checked it 100 times and everything is fine.»
Security experts, including Microsoft, Cisco and Symantec, said that they all have evidence that the malware was spread via an update to the tax software program MeDoc.
It is believed that around 80% of companies in Ukraine use the software, which allows clients to send and discuss financial documents internally as well as file them with the government’s tax department.
Ukraine police said that the family could face criminal charges if it is confirmed that they knew about the infection but took no action.

З поля зору правоохоронців він зник 22 січня 2016 року.
Суд дозволив затримання підозрюваного з метою приводу.

(CNN) — Trump administration national security, military and diplomatic officials are holding an unexpected July 4 meeting to discuss what options might be needed if it is determined by the US that North Korea conducted an intercontinental ballistic missile test, several administration officials tell CNN.
US military technical experts are now reviewing all data and intelligence gathered by US satellites, aircraft and other systems to determine if North Korea’s claim that it fired an intercontinental missile is true. «The claim is being taken seriously, » one senior Administration official said.
Top officials at the State Department and the Defense Department are participating in the meeting. If it is determined that an ICBM was launched, the goal is for President Donald Trump to potentially approve a «measured response, » one official told CNN. Nothing has been decided, but that response could include sending additional US military assets such as troops, aircraft and ships to increase the US presence in the region. Diplomatic options are also being considered including more sanctions.
If it is determined that an ICBM has been fired, the Pentagon will publicly communicate that all missile defense measures aboard Navy ships in the western Pacific and land-based missiles in Alaska are fully ready, as are missile defense systems in South Korea and Japan. The aim is to send a message to Asian allies and the world that the US stands ready to defend against North Korean aggression.
At this stage the US believes that whatever capability the North Koreans have demonstrated it does not necessarily mean they can immediately launch a working missile that can reach as far as western Alaska. And it’s also not clear that the regime has a functioning miniaturized nuclear warhead.
However US military commanders have long said they plan against a worst case scenario. Admiral Harry Harris, head of the US Pacific Command recently said, «I know there’s some debate about the miniaturization advancements made by Pyongyang. But PACOM must be prepared to fight tonight, so I take him at his word. I must assume his claims are true — I know his aspirations certainly are.»
Defense Secretary James Mattis also recently underscored US military policy when asked by South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham, «Is it the policy of the Trump administration to deny North Korea the capability of building an ICBM that can hit the American homeland with a nuclear weapon on top?»
Mattis answered simply «Yes, it is, Sen. Graham.»
As CNN has previously reported, US military commanders have updated options for Trump specifically in anticipation of a North Korean ICBM or underground nuclear test.

Комітет Верховної Ради України з питань регламенту та організації роботи ВР направив голові парламенту Андрію Парубію висновок, в якому йдеться про “істотні недоліки” у поданні про надання згоди на притягнення народного депутата України Олеся Довгого до кримінальної відповідальності.
Як передає кореспондент УНІАН, таке рішення комітету озвучив перший заступник голови комітету Павло Пинзеник.
В рішенні комітету сказано, що подання генпрокурора Юрія Луценка про надання згоди на притягнення до кримінальної відповідальності Довгого “містить істотні недоліки в частині обгрунтування зловживання народним депутатом Довгим владними повноваженнями на посаді секретаря Київської міської ради”, а також “в частині щодо зловживання владними повноваженнями в інтересах третіх осіб”.
Комітет прийняв рішення направити голові ВР зазначений висновок, подання та пояснення Довгого.
За це рішення комітету проголосували одноголосно всі присутні на засіданні члени комітету.
Як повідомляв УНІАН, керівник Спеціалізованої антикорупційної прокуратури Назар Холодницький заявив, що 19 червня направив генпрокурору подання на зняття депутатської недоторканності з Довгого в рамках розслідування кримінального провадження щодо незаконного виділення ділянок в Києві у 2007-2009 роках.
21 червня Луценко вніс до Верховної Ради подання про надання згоди на притягнення Довгого до кримінальної відповідальності, в діях якого вбачаються ознаки зловживання службовим становищем, вчиненим у співучасті, з метою незаконного відчуження 10 земельних ділянок у заказнику «Острів Жуків» загальною площею 44,25 га.
Довгий відкидає всі звинувачення.

Windows Timeline and the cloud-powered Clipboard, two features that were announced and shown off at Build 2017 earlier this year, will not be making the Fall Creators Update as expected.
Microsoft executive Joe Belfiore tweeted about the new timing for Timeline in response to a comment from The Verge’s Tom Warren. According to him, they’ re planning for the feature to be in early insider builds shortly after Fall Creators Update is out, with the next major update for Windows 10 expected to land sometime around March 2018.
Timeline is described as an extension of Windows 10’s current Task View. The feature utilizes a visual “timeline” to let you “jump back” in time to a previous activity; think of it as a time machine for resuming work on earlier sessions. This will work in conjunction with another new feature that lets you “pick up where you left off” working across multiple devices, much like Apple’s continuity and handoff features in iOS and macOS but cross platform, with support for Android and iOS devices.
In addition, the new cloud-based “virtual” clipboard, which will make it easy to copy and paste content spanning various platforms, is also now expected to arrive next year.
Belfiore says that the features haven’ t been delayed, they’ re just not ready for this update and that they tried to convey that timing wasn’t specific on these features while showing them off at Build.

Moscow and Beijing have agreed that North Korea should freeze its nuclear and missile programs, while the US and South Korea should abstain from holding war games in the region, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
“We’ ve agreed to promote our joint initiative, based on Russian step-by-step Korean settlement plan and Chinese ideas to simultaneously freeze North Korean nuclear and missile activities, and US and South Korean joint military drills, ” Putin said at a press conference after meeting with China’s leader, Xi Jinping, in Moscow.
“We believe that the outer world is turbulent, local conflicts are emerging constantly, such issues as the Korean peninsula problem, Syrian question, remain very complex, ” Xi Jinping said.
Russia’s president stressed that the two countries have either the same, or very close positions on many international issues.
“We intend to further develop our foreign policy coordination, ” Putin said.
Moscow and Beijing stressed the importance of taking North Korea’s concerns over its safety into consideration, calling them “justified.”
“The two sides stress that justified North Korean concerns should be respected, ” a joint statement by Russia’s and China’s foreign ministers reads. “Other countries should make certain moves to resume the negotiations, creating a peaceful disposition and mutual trust.”
“A possibility of the use of military measures to solve the problems of the Korean Peninsula must be ruled out, ” the joint statement stressed.
While condemning Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile tests as violating UN Security Council resolutions, Moscow and Beijing urged the United States to immediately halt its deployment of THAAD anti-missile systems to South Korea.
“The sides agree that the deployment of THAAD anti-missile systems to Northeast Asia gravely damages strategic safety interests of regional powers, including Russia and China and do not contribute to the de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, as well as towards establishing peace and stability in the region, ” the statement reads.
“Russia and China oppose the deployment of the said systems and call on the countries involved to immediately halt and cancel the process of their deployment.”
Russia and China’s calls for de-escalation and negotiation are clearly a step into right direction if the ongoing Korean crisis is to be untangled, Asia-Pacific defense consultant Jack Midgley believes.
“North Korea now has at least a limited ballistic missile capability; they have at least a limited nuclear weapons capability. The question is: how will the world deal with the emergence of this new set of facts, ” Midgley said, adding “the experience of the last 60 years is very consistent there – it’s that the only way forward that actually works is to bring the parties together and to negotiate.”

Намеченная встреча организована с целью координации усилий по противодействию агрессии в отношении Украины со стороны Российской Федерации, сообщает «Диалог. UA».
В Киеве западного партнера будет встречать лично глава государства Петр Порошенко.
Сообщается, что стороны должны обсудить вопросы укрепления стратегического партнерства между Украиной и США и скоординировать действия, направленные на предотвращение эскалации военного конфликта на Востоке Украины.
Отметим, в ходе встречи также планируется рассмотреть вопрос реализации договоренностей, достигнутых во время визита главы нашего государства в США 20-21 июня.
Ранее сообщалось, что Петр Порошенко адресовал американцам поздравления в День независимости. Напомним, Порошенко подписал закон о качестве продуктов питания, что приблизит Украину к стандартам Евросоюза.
