Євроскептики висунули Мей ультиматум стосовно угоди про Brexit — Times

Британські євроскептики-консерватори European Research Group (ERG, групи на чолі з прихильником «жорсткого» Brexit Джейкобом Рисом-Могг) висунули прем’єр-міністру Терезі Мей умови, які вона повинна забезпечити для того, щоб заручитися їх підтримкою на голосуванні в парламенті щодо схвалення угоди з Брюсселем про вихід Британії з ЄС.

У разі невиконання Мей умов висунених євроскептиками, депутати пообіцяли не підтримувати запропоновану прем’єр-міністром угоду про Brexit. Вісім євроскептиків підготували документ, в якому детально виклали вимоги, без виконання яких вони не підтримують запропоновану Мей угоду на голосуванні, яке заплановане на 12 березня.
Згідно з цим документом, вимоги пов’язані зі спірним питанням навколо режиму підтримки перебування Північної Ірландії в складі митного союзу ЄС і єдиного європейського ринку після початку перехідного періоду Brexit.
Видання повідомило, що депутати заявили аби угода мала «дещо більше, ніж просте згадування тимчасового характеру механізму «бекстопу», а також чіткий опис дій Британії відносно британсько-ірландського кордону у випадку провалу торгових переговорів з ЄС.
Нагадаємо, 26 лютого прем’єр-міністер Великої Британії Тереза Мей розповіла у парламенті про результати переговорів із ЄС щодо угоди про Brexit, а наступного дня депутати Палати громад голосуватимуть щодо подальших кроків у переговорах. Пізніше прем’єрка запропонувала перенести голосування до 12 березня.
Своєю чергою Брюссель пропонує британському уряду перенести дату Brexit, але прем’єрка наполягає, що він відбудеться 29 березня. Сторони досі не затвердили угоду про відносини після виходу Великобританії з ЄС. Якщо цього не зроблять, то відбудеться так званий «жорсткий Brexit», який, як побоюються, може спричинити великий хаос як у Великобританії, так і в ЄС.

In the two-part HBO documentary Leaving Neverland, Wade Robson and James Safechuck accuse pop star Michael Jackson of sexually abusing them while they were children. (He was not charged with any crimes related to Robson or Safechuck, and was acquitted of molestation charges related to another accuser in 2005, per The New York Times.) Jackson had well-documented friendships with many children, not just the documentary subjects. Actor Macaulay Culkin comes up in the doc because of his relationship with the late icon. Though he’s not interviewed in the film, a card at the end of Part I reminds viewers that the actor has never alleged that Jackson abused him. Macaulay Culkin recently commented about Michael Jackson elsewhere, acknowledging that he’s still questioned about the nature of their friendship.
In early January, Culkin appeared as a guest on the podcast “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum,” per USA Today, and addressed public perception of his friendship with Jackson. «It’s almost easy to try say it was ‘weird’ or whatever, but it wasn’t, because it made sense,” Culkin said. “It’s one of my friendships that people question, only because of the fact that he was the most famous person in the world.”
Rosenbam asked about their age gap, noting that it’s unusual for an adult to be close friends with a child. But Culkin, who achieved fame very young, explained why he didn’t find it to be strange. “I was a peerless person,” he said. “Nobody else in my Catholic school even had this… idea of what I was going through, and he was the kind of person who’d been through the exact same freakin’ thing and wanted to make sure I wasn’t alone in that,” explained the actor. “He reached out to me ‘cause a lot of things were happening big and fast with me. I think he identified with that.»
The documentary recounts Culkin’s testimony at Jackson’s 2005 trial. Per ABC News, Jackson was charged with molestation, attempted molestation, plying minors with liquor, and «conspiracy stemming from an alleged attempt to hold his accuser and the boy’s family virtual hostages of Neverland.» Jackson maintained his innocence, and Culkin appeared in court to be questioned.
CNN reported that Culkin claimed he had slept in Jackson’s bed more than a dozen times between the ages 9 and 14, but contended that there was nothing sexual about their sleepovers. «I’ve fallen asleep in the same bed with him. I’d just flop down,” said Culkin. He also noted that Jackson had an “open door policy” so his door was never locked, and he always slept fully clothed.
CNN also reported, that during the trial, two former Neverland employees claimed to have witnessed Jackson behaving inappropriately with Culkin, which troubled him. «As far as I know, he’s never molested me,» Culkin said. «I find that unlikely. I think I’d realize if something like that would be happening.»
Robson also testified at the trial, claiming that nothing sexual had occurred between himself and Jackson. «Michael’s training of me to testify began the first night that he started abusing me, in the sense that you know, that right away, after the first kind of experience of sexual abuse, he started telling me that if anybody else ever finds out, we’ll both go to jail, both of our lives would be over,» Robson told CBS This Morninga few days before the HBO premiere, per The Hollywood Reporter.
IndieWire reported that Michael Jackson’s estate issued a statement about the film in January. It reads:

While the documentary includes many first-person claims about Jackson’s allegedly abusive behavior, Culkin still stands by the star. He has not commented publicly on the documentary.

Galaxy S10 vs. Galaxy Fold: What's the difference?

The Galaxy S10 is familiar and reliable, but the Fold is bold and exciting. So how do they really compare to one another?
This year is officially the year when foldable phones are taking the stage in earnest. At MWC 2019 for instance, which just wrapped Thursday, we learned about a bunch of new foldable phone ambitions from Huawei, TCL and Motorola. And while Samsung isn’t the first to release a mass-market foldable phone (that honor would go to the Royole FlexPai), it certainly is the biggest name to throw its hat in the ring.
That’s why when Samsung introduced its Galaxy Fold at Unpacked earlier this month, it stole most of the spotlight from the other four(!) phones the company announced there as well (including a 5G phone). Though many are intrigued by the Galaxy Fold, not many will be able to buy it given its price, uncommon design and limited availability. Instead, Samsung’s steadfast flagship, the Galaxy S10, will likely be the Galaxy phone most people will purchase.
Still, we wouldn’t blame you if you were seriously considering both devices. The Galaxy S10 may be reliable and familiar, but the Fold represents the bold and exciting. Read on to see other ways these two phones differ in key ways.
The biggest difference between the two Galaxy phones is the design. While Samsung tweaked the Galaxy S10’s design a bit compared to the S9 (more on that later), the Galaxy Fold represents a new form factor altogether.
The Fold, if it’s not obvious already by its name, has a foldable OLED screen. When closed it has a secondary 4.6-inch display that serves as its «cover,» with all the usual features you’d expect on a phone. When you’re ready for something bigger, the Fold opens up hot-dog-style like a book to a 7.3-inch tablet.
To achieve this design with no visible line across the screen, the Fold has what the company calls the «Infinity Flex Display.» Essentially made out of a fancy plastic material, the screen can flex and fold hundreds of times without breaking. With the help of Google’s OS, apps will switch smoothly between display sizes as well.
The Galaxy S10, on the other hand, adopts a more traditional phone look. Though the design is familiar it’s not exactly dull — it still has a sleek glass encasing and slimmer bezels make the display even bigger from its predecessor (from 5.6 to 6.1 inches). It also comes in an array of new colors (though not all are available to every market), including a vibrant yellow, pink and an iridescent white.
The Galaxy S10 has a total of four cameras, which to many casual users is quite enough, thank you very much. There are three cameras in the back and one in the front. The rear setup includes an ultra-wide-angle, a wide-angle and telephoto lenses while the front has a 10-megapixel camera.
The Fold, meanwhile, has a total of six cameras. Six does sound like camera overkill, but if the idea is that users should be able to take a picture no matter what configuration the phone is in, it sort of makes sense why the Fold has so many.
On the back, the Fold has the same triple-camera setup as the Galaxy S10. The camera on the front is a single 10-megapixel camera as well. When you open the Fold in its tablet form, there you will two additional cameras inside: a selfie camera and an 8-megapixel depth camera.
This second camera is used for depth sensing, meaning it will use the second lens, not software algorithms, to render a portrait image with the blurred, depth-of-field effect.
When Samsung unveiled the Note 9 last year, many balked at the $1,000 price tag (£899 and AU$1,499). But then the Galaxy Fold came along, said, «Hold my beer,» and revealed itself to cost a whopping $1,980 (about £1,500 or AU$2,800).
In some ways it’s understandable why the Fold costs so much. The novel design, two screens, handful of cameras and bigger battery add up. Indeed, now that people are holding onto their phones longer, such an innovative look may be enough for users to justify an expensive upgrade these days. In the end, it’s also as if you have two products: a phone and a tablet in one.
But the reality for most users is that they can’t afford, or would be too afraid to use, a $2,000 phone. For that kind of money you can go through two generations of Galaxy S-phones (if prices stay relatively the same), or fund your next phone upgrades for up to eight years (if you update every other year) with four $500 Moto Z phones!
If you do want to stick with a premium Samsung device, the Galaxy S10 would be the more «wallet-friendly» choice of the two. (Though I hesitate to even call a $900-starting-price phone «affordable.» For an even cheaper Galaxy S phone, consider the $750 Galaxy S10E.)
Since the Galaxy S10 has the same processor and most of the top-tier specs as the Fold, it won’t sooner become more outdated than the other. Well, except for the whole thing of not having a futuristic foldable screen, anyway.

Support for the Microsoft Band is ending in May

If you’re still using the Microsoft Band fitness tracker, make the most of it – Microsoft is pulling support for the neglected wearable, including user data and the dashboard, on May 31 this year.
This won’t come as a huge surprise considering the writing has been on the wall for years, but we now have a fixed date when Microsoft Bands will no longer function.
The first Microsoft Band broke cover in 2014. It was followed by a sequel a couple of years later, but not long after that, Microsoft announced it wouldn’t be releasing any more of the fitness trackers in the future.
Support for existing Bands and the software underpinning them carried on, until now. If you want to know how to export all the health data you’ve amassed, Microsoft has a full guide here.
Microsoft has also published a FAQ to answer any questions you might have about the official death of Microsoft Band and the associated software.
«Microsoft Band device users can continue to use their devices, though web connected features will not be available,» explains Microsoft. That means you’ll be stuck with on-board functions for tracking steps and sleep, and setting alarms.
Once you reset your Microsoft Band, you won’t be able to use it again. There is a silver lining though: If you’ve synced data since December, you might be eligible for a refund. Check the FAQ for details.
It’s more evidence, if it were needed, that the fitness tracker market is a very tough one. We’re just sad we never got to saw the Xbox Watch wearable.

Pożar pustostanu w Ełku. Znaleziono ciała dwóch osób

Płonął opuszczony poszpitalny budynek w Ełku. Strażacy nie spodziewali się, że ktoś mógł być w środku. Jednak po ugaszeniu ognia, między stropem a dachem, znaleziono zwęglone ciała dwóch osób. Ich tożsamość
W sobotę wieczorem w Ełku doszło do tragedii. Płonął opuszczony budynek po dawnym szpitalu wojskowym przy ul. Kościuszki. W środku były zwęglone zwłoki.
Jak podaje RMF FM, policja wyjaśnia okoliczności śmierci dwóch osób. Ich tożsamość na razie nie jest znana.
To nie był pierwszy pożar tego budynku. W ciągu ostatnich lat pustostan płonął już kilkanaście razy.
Sprawę nadzoruje prokurator.

Die USA und Südkorea ersetzen ihre Grossmanöver durch kleinere Übungen

Militärmanöver der USA und Südkorea sind für Nordkorea stets ein Dorn im Auge. Es ist ein Zugeständnis an Pjongjang, wenn beide Länder jetzt auf Grossmanöver verzichten.
Nach dem gescheiterten Gipfeltreffen des amerikanischen Präsidenten Donald Trump mit Nordkoreas Machthaber Kim Jong Un in Hanoi senden die USA und Südkorea ein Zeichen der Entspannung. Die beiden Verbündeten erklärten am Wochenende, ihre bisher grössten gemeinsamen Militärübungen einzustellen und durch ein kleineres Manöver zu ersetzen. Das mehrwöchige Frühjahrs-Feldmanöver «Foal Eagle» sowie die parallel dazu laufende Kommandoschulung «Key Resolve» wurden in der Vergangenheit von Nordkorea stets scharf kritisiert.
Das neue Manöver «Dong Maeng» (Allianz) werde am Montag beginnen und neun Tage dauern, teilte das gemeinsame Truppenkommando in Südkorea am Sonntag mit. Es handle sich um eine Kommandoübung. Wie viele Soldaten auf beiden Seiten daran teilnehmen, war zunächst unklar. Die USA haben in Südkorea 28 500 Soldaten als Abschreckung gegen Bedrohungen durch Nordkorea stationiert.
Zur Begründung für die Beendigung der grösseren Manöver erklärte das Pentagon, der Schritt spiegele den Wunsch beider Länder wider, «Spannungen zu reduzieren und unsere diplomatischen Anstrengungen zu unterstützen, um die komplette Denuklearisierung auf der koreanischen Halbinsel» zu erreichen. Mit Denuklearisierung meinen beide Länder die vollständige und überprüfbare Abrüstung des nordkoreanisches Atomwaffenprogramms.
Ihre Frühjahrsmanöver lösten immer wieder heftige Proteste der kommunistischen Führung Nordkoreas aus, die den USA Angriffsvorbereitungen unterstellte. Die Regierungen in Washington und Seoul haben dies stets bestritten. Der amtierende amerikanische Verteidigungsminister Patrick Shanahan und sein südkoreanischer Kollege Jeong Kyeong Doo hätten am Samstag bei einem Telefongespräche die Einstellung von «Foal Eagle» und «Key Resolve» gebilligt, hiess es aus dem Pentagon.
Trumps Treffen mit Kim endete am Donnerstag überraschend ohne Abschlusserklärung. Beide Seiten kamen sich in der zentralen Frage des Abbaus des nordkoreanischen Atomwaffenarsenals nicht näher und widersprachen sich später bei der Begründung. Trump sagte, Nordkorea habe die Aufhebung aller Sanktionen verlangt und die geplanten Abrüstungsschritte seien nicht weit genug gegangen. Nordkoreas Aussenminister Ri Yong Ho erwiderte, sein Land habe nur eine teilweise Aufhebung der Sanktionen gefordert.
Die USA und Südkorea hatten angesichts der Entspannung auf der koreanischen Halbinsel die Dauer der Frühjahrsübungen bereits im vergangenen Jahr verkürzt. An «Foal Eagle» nahmen in der Vergangenheit bis zu 300 000 südkoreanische und mehr als 10 000 US-Soldaten teil. Auch andere gemeinsame Militärübungen wurden in kleinerem Umfang abgehalten oder abgesagt. Das hatte in den USA und Südkorea die Sorge ausgelöst, die militärische Bereitschaft könne geschwächt werden.
Trump hatte auch mehrfach den Nutzen der Militärübungen mit Südkorea in Frage gestellt. Insbesondere stiess er sich an den Kosten. Die USA gäben Hunderte Millionen Dollar dafür aus, sagte Trump in Hanoi. Er warf Südkorea vor, den USA bei den Kosten nicht ausreichend zu helfen. Ähnliche Vorwürfe Trumps in der Vergangenheit wurden von Südkorea zurückgewiesen.
